Chairman and Founder, The Heartland Institute
Alan Gappinger, Founder and Chairman of the Board of the Heartland Institute, is actively involved with the organization on a day-to-day basis. As a practicing financial planner, Alan recognized that most people could benefit from basic financial education. He provides that for his clients and it’s what he is committed to bringing to a national audience through the Institute.
Alan received a BA in Education from Arizona State University and an MS in Financial Planning from the American College in Bryn Mawr, PA. His designations include Chartered Financial Consultant, Chartered Life Underwriter and Registered Health Underwriter. He is also a CFE Certified Financial Educator®, having completed the course of study and certification process governed by the Heartland Institute, and a Certified Financial Planner™ professional, having completed his studies through the College for Financial Planning in Denver, CO and meeting the CFP Board of Standards certification requirements.
As a member of the Financial Planning Association, he is a part of the largest organization of professionals who are dedicated to championing the financial planning process. He has taught a range of financial courses as an adjunct professor at the Community College of Aurora in Colorado.
Marcie Gappinger, CFEd®
Director of Education
Marcie Gappinger has been involved in the field of financial services since 1987. She earned the right to use the CFP® mark of distinction in 1992, having completed her studies through the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado and met the certification requirements as set forth by the CFP Board of Standards. She worked as an advisor with clients until the mid-90s. Marcie’s real passion is in helping people achieve their goals and she realized that education – financial education – was an essential component for people to empower themselves, not just financially but in all areas of personal health and well being.
As Director of Education for the Heartland Institute, Marcie is committed to bringing this kind of education to as many people as possible. She works with HR professionals, associations and corporations to facilitate the development of teaching relationships with local CFEd® professionals who provide financial wellness classes. She is also involved in monitoring the Continuing Education Program for human resource professionals.
Marcie holds a degree in Music from the University of Denver and is a member of Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) and the Society of Human Resource Professionals (SHRM).
